1. Accepting these terms
MyNeighbourhood (myneighbourhood.co.in) is created and maintained by
Elamugil Software Solutions (“we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the site, you agree to these Terms and to
our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use MyNeighbourhood.
2. Who can join
- You must be 18 years or older.
- You should live in, or have a genuine connection to (for example, own a home in), the neighbourhood you join.
- One person, one account. Accounts are for individuals, not businesses. A business owner may join as a resident and may be recommended by neighbours.
3. Your account
- Use your real name and an address you actually live at. Don't pretend to be someone else.
- Keep your login details safe. You're responsible for what happens on your account.
- Tell us straight away at mailforsaravana@gmail.com if you think someone else has accessed your account.
4. Community rules
MyNeighbourhood works because neighbours trust each other. You agree not to post, message or share anything that:
- is hateful or discriminatory, including on the basis of religion, caste, community, race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, region or language;
- harasses, bullies, threatens or intimidates anyone, or encourages violence;
- is obscene, pornographic, sexually explicit, or harmful to children;
- shares someone else's personal details (phone number, address, photos, ID) without their permission;
- is false or misleading, including fake alerts, rumours, or impersonating a person, official or organisation;
- is a scam, fraud, pyramid scheme, spam, or unsolicited advertising;
- infringes someone's copyright, trademark or other rights;
- promotes illegal activity, gambling, or the sale of prohibited items;
- contains viruses or harmful code, or tries to break, overload, scrape or misuse the site;
- threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security or sovereignty of India, public order, or relations with other countries;
- is otherwise unlawful under Indian law, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the IT Rules, 2021.
Civic discussion about local issues is welcome. Keep it respectful and about the issue, not personal attacks.
Never share OTPs, passwords, bank details or UPI PINs with anyone on MyNeighbourhood. We will never ask for them.
5. Safety alerts & emergencies
- MyNeighbourhood is not an emergency service. If someone is in danger, call 112 (or police 100, ambulance 108, fire 101) first.
- Post safety alerts to inform neighbours, not to accuse or shame people. Stick to facts, and don't post photos or details that identify a suspect.
- Don't take the law into your own hands. Report crimes to the police.
- We don't check alerts before they appear and can't guarantee they are accurate.
6. Buy, sell & give away
- Listings are made by members. Any deal is between the buyer and the seller. We don't take part in, guarantee, or take payment for any sale.
- Describe items honestly, and only list things you own and are allowed to sell.
- Don't list illegal or dangerous items, including weapons, drugs, alcohol or tobacco where prohibited, medicines that need a prescription, counterfeit goods, animals or wildlife products sold illegally, or anything else that is against the law.
- Meet in a public place, inspect items before paying, and be careful with advance payments.
7. Services, places & upvotes
- Service recommendations, favourite places and upvotes are the personal opinions of members. We don't verify, endorse or guarantee any service provider, shop or place.
- Only add a service provider's phone number if they have agreed to it being shared.
- Be honest. Don't post fake recommendations, use extra accounts to upvote, offer or accept payment for upvotes, or run campaigns to push a place up or down.
- Hiring someone (a maid, plumber, tutor and so on) is an agreement between you and them. Check references, and follow the law on wages and police verification where it applies.
7a. Schools, ratings & reviews
- Add only real schools, with accurate details.
- Ratings and reviews must be your honest, first-hand experience as a parent, student or neighbour. One rating per person; you can change it any time.
- Don't post fake reviews, reviews you were paid or rewarded for, or reviews about a school you run or compete with.
- Criticise the school, not individuals: no names or accusations against teachers, staff or children. Report serious concerns (such as safety or abuse) to the school management, the authorities, or Childline 1098.
- Ratings and reviews are members' opinions. We don't verify or endorse any school.
7b. Photos
- Only post photos you took yourself or have the right to share.
- Don't post photos of people, especially children, without their (or their parent's) permission, and never post nudity, violence, documents, or vehicle number plates or faces to accuse someone.
- We may remove photos that break these Terms.
8. Events & meeting people
- Event organisers are responsible for their events, including any permissions needed and the safety of the people who attend.
- Take sensible care when meeting people you've only met online.
9. Your content
- You own what you post. You're responsible for it, and you confirm you have the right to post it.
- By posting, you give us a free, non-exclusive licence to store, display and share your content with the members who can see it (see our Privacy Policy), only so that we can run MyNeighbourhood. This licence ends when you delete the content, except for copies already shared by other members or kept for legal reasons.
- You can delete your own posts, listings and places at any time.
10. Reports & moderation
- Use the ⚑ Report button, or email us, to report content that breaks these Terms.
- We may remove content, limit features, or suspend or delete accounts that break these Terms or the law, with or without notice.
- We act on valid complaints and lawful orders from courts or government agencies, within the timelines required by the IT Rules, 2021.
- If you think we removed something by mistake, write to us and we will review it.
11. Our name & logo
The MyNeighbourhood name, logo, design and software belong to Elamugil Software Solutions. Please don't copy or use
them without our written permission, except to share links to the site.
12. Other services
MyNeighbourhood uses or links to services run by others, such as Google sign-in, OpenStreetMap, Google Maps directions
and WhatsApp sharing. Their own terms apply when you use them, and we aren't responsible for them.
13. Disclaimers
MyNeighbourhood is provided free of charge, “as is” and “as available”. We work hard to keep it running and accurate,
but we can't promise it will always be available, error-free or secure. Information on the site is posted by members,
and we don't guarantee that it is accurate, complete or reliable. Distances and map locations are approximate.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Elamugil Software Solutions is not liable for any indirect, incidental or
consequential loss, or for any loss caused by other members, their content, or your dealings with them (including
purchases, services and meetings). Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under Indian law.
You agree to compensate us for reasonable losses and legal costs we suffer because you broke these Terms or the law.
15. Ending your account
You can stop using MyNeighbourhood at any time, and ask us to delete your account by emailing
mailforsaravana@gmail.com.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these Terms. The sections that by their nature should continue
(such as Disclaimers and Limitation of liability) continue to apply after your account ends.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute will be handled by the competent courts in India. We'd always
prefer to sort things out first, so please contact us before taking any formal step.
17. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will change the “Last updated” date above, and for important changes
we will tell you on the site or by email before they take effect. If you keep using MyNeighbourhood after changes take
effect, you accept the updated Terms.
